Below are the recommendations I made during the hearings last week (August 2023).  These recommendations must be voted on by the TN SBOE in October 2023 .  My recommendations are in italics.

 

US History S.38 –

Describe the basic ideologies, criticisms, and the convergence of capitalism, socialism and communism.

 

Ancient History AH.08 –

Describe the origins and central features of Judaism and its distinctions from other early religious traditions:

  • Key person(s): Abraham, Moses
  • Sacred Texts: The Tanakh (Hebrew Bible, including the Torah)
  • Basic Beliefs: monotheism, Ten Commandments, emphasis on individual worth and personal responsibility.

 

Understanding the contemporary world –

W.79 –

Describe significant social and political issues in the contemporary world, such as:

  • Territorial disputes (e.g. Arab-Israeli Conflict from Israeli – Palestine Conflict

W.72 –

Analyze the Arab-Israeli Conflict (from Israel and the surrounding Arab nations) and the peace process in the Middle East , including Camp David Accords.

 

World War II –

Explain the state-sponsored mass murder of targeted groups (e.g. Hitler’s Final Solution to the Jewish Question) – from “of the Jews in Nazi controlled lands”.

W.49 –

Explain the state-sponsored mass murder (ie. Hitler’s Final Solution) of the Jews in Nazi controlled lands.

W.37 –

Analyze the goal and negotiating roles of world leaders at the Paris Peace Conference and their impact on Germany, the League of Nations, and the creation of new states (Palestine as a Jewish State… )

7.38 –

Describe the rise of the Spanish and Portuguese kingdoms in the Iberian Peninsula, and explain the significance of the Reconquista and the Inquisition.

6.22 –

Describe the development of the ancient Israelites, and explain the reasons for their movements from Mesopotamia (ie. Ur of the Chaldees) to Canaan (later called Israel)…

6.23 –

Describe the origins and central features of Judaism:

  • Sacred Texts: The Tanakh (ie., Hebrew Bible, including the Torah)
