Dear President Trump,

We at Proclaiming Justice to The Nations (PJTN) write to you with deep concern regarding the nomination of Penny Schwinn to the position of Deputy Secretary of Education. We urge you to rescind this nomination in the best interests of American students and the future of our education system.

As an organization committed to defending Judeo-Christian values and ensuring that our children receive an education rooted in truth, integrity, and excellence, we have carefully reviewed Penny Schwinn’s record in Texas, Tennessee, and Florida. Her tenure in each of these states has been marred by controversy, mismanagement, and policies that have threatened the well-being of students and the integrity of our education system.

Notably:

• In Texas, an audit found that Schwinn failed to follow rules for a no-bid $4.4 million contract on special education services.
• In Tennessee, she approved a $2.5 million no-bid contract for the failed Education Savings Account program, which was deemed unconstitutional and remains tied up in court.
• She attempted to implement a well-being check program that would have sent government representatives to children’s homes, a move that was widely condemned as overreach and was ultimately shut down.
• Her involvement in the Tennessee textbook adoption process raised concerns about political interference, leading the General Assembly to strip the Education Commissioner of key decision-making powers regarding instructional materials.
• Under her leadership, Tennessee schools were exposed to curriculum materials that contained pornographic, antisemitic, and ideologically driven content, in violation of state child indecency laws.
• She approved the adoption of controversial programs such as Critical Race Theory (CRT), Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI), and Social Emotional Learning (SEL), despite parental opposition.
• In Florida, as a University of Florida administrator, she proposed controversial changes to the PK-12 system, including selective admission policies and a failed initiative to establish new charter schools under the university’s name.

Given this troubling track record, it is clear that Penny Schwinn is not the right choice to oversee our nation’s K-12 education system. Our children deserve leaders who prioritize parental rights, academic excellence, and the protection of American values—not individuals who have repeatedly mismanaged resources and promoted radical ideologies.

In your commitment to making America great again, ensuring that education is in the hands of dedicated, principled, and competent leaders is of utmost importance. We respectfully urge you to reconsider this nomination and select a candidate whose record reflects the values and priorities of the American people.
